Somewhere between a choir and a kitchen party, there's The Atonals. We're a group of folks who love to sing. Some of us are good at it. Some of us are enthusiastic about it. A few of us are both, which is a bonus. What we all have in common is that we'd rather be singing than not singing, and we'd rather be singing together. On December 12, we're taking the stage at The Playhouse at White Lake for an evening of holiday songs you already know by heart — and the stories behind them that you probably don't. Between songs, a narrator will share the history of the music: where these carols came from, who wrote them, the strange and sometimes surprising paths they took to becoming the songs we sing every December. You'll hear "Silent Night" differently once you know the night it was actually written. You'll never hum "Jingle Bells" quite the same way again. It's a concert, and it's also a story hour. Come for the music. Stay for the part where you learn something. Tickets are $10, or pay what you can. Nobody will be turned away. If $10 is comfortable, wonderful — that's what keeps the lights on and the music happening. If it isn't this year, come anyway and pay what works. We mean it. Bring a friend. Bring your family. Bring the neighbor who sings in the car and thinks nobody notices. Better, yet, join The Atonals and sing your heart out!
