First FridaysRachael Davis—Michigan’s Songstress

Multi-instrumentalist Rachael Davis is as renown for her expressive—and explosive—voice as she is for uniting the often disparate worlds of folk, blues, country, and pop. Because Davis has been swayed by so many different types of music, she says, "My slant on acoustic music can be explained by a mixed cassette tape that my father played during my early childhood while driving in our family’s Chevy Cavalier station wagon we nicknamed Iggy. On one side of the cassette was the soundtrack for the film The Big Chill. On the other was John Hartford’s Areoplane." Today Davis describes her music as ‘Motown-Banjo’.

Rachael DavisDavis has lent her voice to countless recordings for friends, film soundtracks, and even video games, but it is her intuitive and empathetic understanding of folk music—“the music of folks” as she calls it, and her original and thoughtful songwriting voice that has earned her fans around the U.S.

Recently she has collaborated in the critically acclaimed supergroup, The Sweetwater Warblers, comprised of Rachael Davis, Lindsay Lou, and May Erlewine, all three premiere Michigan-grown songbirds.

Rachael Davis now lives in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, critically acclaimed bassist, Dominic John Davis, with whom she performs as The Davis Duo. Together they cultivate a diverse community steeped in music, art, travel and love, and are raising a son and daughter at the center of it all.

First FridaysThird Coast Swing

Third Coast Swing has been playing the music of the late Belgium born Romani Gypsy, Django Reinhardt, and his band, The Hot Club Of Paris 1930’-1940’s. Think Louis Armstrong with a French accent.

Third Coast SwingThird Coast Swing has changed it up a bit and is currently touring with the Detroit native Dave Bennett, Violinist Grant Flick, Vocalist Ella Jury Jarvis, and Pianist Andrew Henley. Ella and guitarist Kaedin Plummer did a deep dive on early jazz classics by Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Billy Holiday, and then arranged these songs to fit Third Coast Swing’s eclectic style.

Third Coast Swing has performed with tational touring acts such as Frank Vignola, Denis Chang, Jimmy Grant, Dave Bennett. The group has also been playing at music festivals in Wisconsin and Michigan. Regionally Third Coast Swing has performed at The West Michigan Jazz Society, The Ludington Amphitheater, The Ludington Area Center for the Arts, Bell’s Kalamazoo, Detroit Jazz Society, Crooked Tree Art’s Center, Kerrytown Concert House, the Ramsdell Theater, and the Westshore Performing Arts.

First FridaysThe Ragbirds

Led by dynamic, multi-instrumentalist Erin Zindle, The Ragbirds create music that is equally danceable, intelligent, and vulnerable. They incorporate indie-pop melodies, global-infused beats, rock guitar riffs, and folk sensibilities into a high-energy live show which leaves every listener in a higher place than when it began.

The RagbirdsSince 2005, they have gathered and maintained a passionate, grassroots fanbase by reinventing themselves with an ever-evolving sound, while sharing the stage with Brandi Carlile, Rusted Root, Greensky Bluegrass, Birds of Chicago, Lindsay Lou and Billy Strings, just to name a few.

The band has performed in 47 states, winning over crowds at festivals such as: Electric Forest, Summer Camp, Green Room Festival (Yokohama Japan), Ann Arbor Folk Festival, Great Blue Heron, and many more.
