White Lake Youth Theatre Opportunities
Overview
To register your student for a workshop, please call the Playhouse at (231) 894-0119 or contact the Managing Director via this website (exception: for PAW contact the Nuveen Center as noted below). Registration deadlines for workshops are below, and you will receive reminders as deadlines approach by e-mail if you are on our youth theater e-mail list. Intensive classes are generally capped, so register your students early. Class fees are generally required to be paid the first day of the workshop. Scholarships are available to all students.

- Tuesdays & Wednesdays, April 9 - 24
- Sessions start at 6 pm
- Sessions will be 2 hours in length

- 5th through 12th grades
- Must have performed in one WLYT or other production to participate

Description
This class will focus on teaching the basic tenets of dance for any level theater student to help them become more comfortable dancing on stage! We will cover stretching, basic dance moves, characterization through dance, and the basics of stage choreography—associating movement with music/lyrics, formations, & partnering work. Vocal instructor Brianna Clark will teach a unit on voice for musical theater, and then students will dance and sing a final production number for friends and family at the end of the workshop. Students will walk away more confident in their ability to move on stage, whether in a straight play or musical. Closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothes required. Some homework may be assigned during the class.

Students ages 10 through 18, approximately 3rd through 12th grades. High school seniors are welcome!
Workshop Fee
Students cast in The Fearsome Pirate Frank will be required to pay a $30 workshop fee; scholarships are available.

Description
Students should come prepared to play games, perform acting exercises, and read from the script to audition for the Summer Performance Workshop. Students may be called back for a second audition. No prior stage experience necessary to audition.

Copies of the Script
Copies of the script of The Fearsome Pirate Frank are available at Whitehall City Hall for check-out. Students can take a script for 72 hours with a $3.00 deposit and deposits will be returned upon the return of the script. City Hall is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Students should be prepared to perform scenes from the entire script, including the following: Pages: 1-4, 7-9, 18-20, 23-24, and 34-36.
The Fearsome Pirate Frank Synopsis
As the story goes, the star of a popular pirate play—The Fearsome Pirate Frank—is the teenage heartthrob of every girl in Shakespearean England, even though he can't remember his lines for the life of him! However, when the actor playing Frank and his supporting cast, including prima donna Esmerelda, get kidnapped by real pirates during one of their productions, it's good-bye stardom, hello servitude on a real pirate ship! The narrators and a stream of hilarious sign-carriers keep the show moving as we see the pirate actors swabbing the decks under the orders of the real pirate Frank, who happens to be a woman. But pirate actors are not the only ones hijacked in this comic romp—so is the plot from a particular popular pirate flick! In a chilling flashback sequence, the tale of how Captain Frank received the "Blackmark" comes alive as we see her send her crooked captain to walk the plank.
