Musical Theatre Dance Workshop with Sam Farrar

Get spooky and groove to the Ghostbusters theme song

Ghostbusters Dance WorkshopThis popular workshop is back by strong demand! Students ages 8-16 will break into smaller groups by age to explore the magic of movement in our enchanting musical theater dance workshop for kids. Creativity is unleashed through rhythmic expression, as we learn fundamental dance techniques, and set the stage for a dazzling performance to Ghostbusters, the iconic theme song.

Join us for a toe-tapping, twirl-filled adventure where young performers can dance their way into the spotlight with a final presentation for family and friends at the end of the session around 11:50 AM.

Taught by Samantha Farrar, who originally hails from Newcastle, England, but has been living the Michigan life since 2015, we are thrilled to welcome Sam back as a much beloved movement teacher. Having trained from a young age, Sam is currently teaching at Spotlight Dance Academy in Spring Lake. Since moving to Michigan, she has been involved in a plethora of Musical Theatre programs in addition to White Lake Youth Theatre, including Whitehall Schools, Arts Council of White Lake, Spring Lake Middle School, Artios Academies of West Michigan, and Central Park Players. Sam is excited to once again be dancing with the wonderful people at The Playhouse, where she has previously choreographed and taught. Bring on the dancing!

A note to parents/caregivers:

  • Please feed students well prior to help give then energy! They run through calories quickly and have a hard time keeping up if they don't have enough to eat on these busy mornings.
  • Please pack a water bottle and less-messy snacks.
  • Please have students dress comfortably to move and in layers for changing temperatures.
  • Tell the kids to relax, come ready to be welcomed, make new friends and have a GREAT TIME!

And don't forget to join us on October 17th for the Puppetry Workshop

Puppetry Education Weekend

Bird Marionette Puppet Creation Workshop

My Air Productions Puppet Artist Joey Emory kicks off our Puppetry Education Weekend with a workshop for our WLYT students …

In this fun filled workshop students will learn about marionette movement and construction, how to build their own little show, and most importantly all students will learn how to make their very own marionette which they will build at the workshop, and then take home to bring to life for family and freinds.

This is s two hour, hands-on workshop for all ages.

Parents are welcome to support students under 12 if they wish, or as needed for the comfort of older students. Only those under 10 should need an accompanying adult, and if parents wish to build their own, they can register both the student and the child, or they can simply register the student and come to help them build.

At the conclusion of the workshop we will record short videos of each of our students with their marionette puppets as each of us enters the world of performing marionette artists.

Puppetry Education Weekend

The Frog Prince Performance

My Air ProductionsJoin us for the conclusion of our Puppetry Education Weekend with My Air Productions Puppet Artist Joey Emory. He will present a delightful and engaging performance of The Frog Prince. Joey is a local legend, his shows are suitable for all ages, and he is not to be missed.

The Frog Prince Puppet Show is a wonderful story brought to life in this amazing production of Bob and Judy Brown, which inspired the locally famous puppeteer and puppet-builder Joey Emory & his company, My Air Productions Puppets, in his unique adaptation of this wonderful story.  You will love this fun adventure, which is great way to spend the afternoon for the entire family and sure to be a hit for those of all ages.

Joey Emory BIO: Joey Emory has been a member of UNIMA International and Puppeteers Of America for over 55 years and has been active in puppetry since the 1960’s. His My Air Productions has created hundreds of characters and shows that have entertained thousands of people since the 1980’s, and his technical theater expertise has been utilized by performing troops throughout the world. You have to see this performance to truly realize the depth of this show for yourself.  A perspective from Joey Emory; “I believe it’s easier to raise the level of the little people (kids) in the audience than get the adult (kids)  to let go of their big kid inhibition’s and let their imaginations fly. So, I meet both of them somewhere in the middle.  It’s always amazing to me to watch the child come out in the adults eyes, just as the easy wonder in the child’s eyes and the imagination in both of their eyes” that only Puppetry can provide.

Don't miss this special community collaboration with this talented local artist, as he shares both education and performance.

Dixon's ViolinDixon’s Violin

You've never heard violin like this!

The world's premier visionary violinist, Dixon's life mission is to inspire people, and he has done so at over 1,000 concerts across North America, including giving five TED talks/performances, over ten years at Burning Man and Electric Forest, plus radio, TV, and film appearances. A former technology leader and symphony violinist, Dixon walked away from a distinguished career to follow his dream full-time, and invented a whole new music genre. Dixon now improvises on a 5-string electric violin with a looping system he developed to create an all-live one-man symphony, guided by his remarkable personal story of life transformation.

  • The violinist that is changing the world, Preserve the Future
  • Standing ovation … It's no surprise that Dixon was voted the best of the evening, Examiner
  • Not your ordinary violinist, Fox 2 News
  • It's quite an accomplishment for a man who possibly invented a new genre on his violin, City Pulse
  • One in particular, Dixon's Violin, blew minds with a folksy, heartfelt set, performed entirely by one man and one electric violin, Examiner
