Musical Theatre Dance Workshop with Sam Farrar

Beauty and the Beast's BE OUR GUEST

Musical Theatre DanceThis popular workshop is back by strong demand! Students ages 5-16 will break into smaller groups by age to explore the magic of movement in our enchanting musical theater dance workshop for kids. Creativity is unleashed through rhythmic expression, as we learn fundamental dance techniques, and set the stage for a dazzling performance.

Join us for a toe-tapping, twirl-filled adventure where young performers can dance their way into the spotlight with a final presentation for family and friends at the end of the session around 11:50 AM.

Taught by Samantha Farrar, who originally hails from Newcastle, England, but has been living the Michigan life since 2015, we are thrilled to welcome Sam back as a much beloved movement teacher. Having trained from a young age, Sam is currently teaching at Spotlight Dance Academy in Spring Lake. Since moving to Michigan, she has been involved in a plethora of Musical Theatre programs in addition to White Lake Youth Theatre, including Whitehall Schools, Arts Council of White Lake, Spring Lake Middle School, Artios Academies of West Michigan, and Central Park Players. Sam is excited to once again be dancing with the wonderful people at The Playhouse, where she has previously choreographed and taught. Bring on the dancing!

A note to parents/caregivers:

  • Please feed students well prior to help give then energy! They run through calories quickly and have a hard time keeping up if they don't have enough to eat on these busy mornings.
  • Please pack a water bottle and less-messy snacks.
  • Please have students dress comfortably to move and in layers for changing temperatures.
  • Tell the kids to relax, come ready to be welcomed, make new friends and have a GREAT TIME!

Spring Break Musical Play Camp - Sleeping Beauty

Sleeping BeautyThe White Lake Youth Theatre (WLYT) welcomes the Missoula Children's Theatre (MCT) back to The Playhouse at White Lake for a one-week Spring Musical Play Camp featuring the beloved story of Sleeping Beauty.

Musical Play Camp Summary

The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents Sleeping Beauty, an original adaptation of the classic fairy tale. After a week of rehearsals, we see the story unfold with our White Lake Youth Theatre. A new princess is born, and from far and wide the people of the kingdom gather to celebrate. One simple mistake is made, an invitation is misplaced, and the wrath of the vicious Scarella falls upon the poor infant in the form of a spell. Sleeping Beauty is now destined to sleep for eternity if she should prick her finger on a spindle before she reaches her sixteenth birthday. Sleeping Beauty’s Fairy Godmothers do their best to amend the spell, but Scarella, with the help of some nasty Trolls, tricks Sleeping Beauty into pricking her finger and the spell takes effect. Five hundred years pass and Sleeping Beauty wakes to find herself in a Rock ‘n Roll dream! Also featured in this production are the King and the Queen, Spot, the Fairies, the Palace Attendants and the Caterpillars. Sleeping Beauty isdefinitely a Rock ‘n Roll Fable for the ages.

Adapted by Don Kukla, Music and Lyrics by Don Kukla and Michael McGill, in partnership with the White Lake Youth Theatre.

The Missoula Children's Theatre tour team arrives in our little town for seven days with their “little red truck” loaded full with everything we'll need for Sleeping Beauty, including the set, lights, costumes, props, and make-up, really everything it takes to put on a play. The team will hold an open audition and cast up to 60 local students to perform in this production at the end of the week. The show is rehearsed throughout the week after-school and a public performance will be presented at the end of the week to show off the unbelievable results of this one-week long unique, educational theatre experience.

Missoula Children's TheatreMissoula Children's TheatreMCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts, which marries nicely with our similar White Lake Youth Theatre mission: to cultivate a compassionate community of youth artists through education and access to the arts.

This program is open to actors ages 5 through 18 and partial scholarships are available in exchange for work-trade. This program is also WLACE eligible. Please use the Contact Us form on this website to ask Cindy Beth to ask about scholarships.

Brandon Ogborn's Cry for Help:
Life and Death as a Stay-At-Home Dad

Brandon OgbornOne Man Comedy Show

Brandon Ogborn presents Cry for Help: Life and Death as a Stay-At-Home Dad, a one-man show about family, faith, and finding yourself in the chaos. From prank-calling strangers as CIA agents and being homeschooled in a religious cult to rubbing shoulders with Hollywood legends and auditioning for America's most famous sketch show, Brandon's life as a professional oversharer has been anything but ordinary.

As a stay-at-home dad to a pair of chaos-creating children, Ogborn recently lost his own father, Bert—an idiosyncratic and confounding character who spent decades working on his proudest achievement: a board game about —you guessed it!—the late conservative radio host, Rush Limbaugh. Wrestling with the loss, uncovering family secrets, and navigating the surprises of middle-aged medical care, Ogborn discovers that parenting and grief are basically the same thing--they're exhausting, disorienting, and everyone has an opinion about how you're doing it wrong. Presented like the world's most emotionally devastating family slideshow—complete with home videos, photos, and the awkward charm of a 1980s living room presentation—Ogborn blends razor-sharp storytelling with just enough vulnerability to make you laugh until you cry.
