Peter YarrowAn Evening with the Legendary Peter Yarrow

A concert by Pete Yarrow, today, is exciting, moving, and also entertaining, but it is also an event that follows in the tradition of his early mentors, The Weavers and Pete Seeger. Peter intentionally uses his music to create a community of acceptance from the stage, an “oasis of peace” as he calls it. His gift for songwriting has produced some of the most poignant songs Peter, Paul & Mary have recorded, including Puff, the Magic Dragon, Day is Done, Light One Candle, and The Great Mandala. As a member of the renowned musical trio, he has earned many gold and platinum albums, and has been awarded and nominated for numerous Grammys.

“We’re part of a long train ride,” is the way Peter Yarrow visualizes the many events that have highlighted a career spanning more than five decades. With characteristic care, Yarrow places the success he’s had within a greater context, seeing his accomplishments as part of a tradition, to be credited as his inspiration and carried on. “When I was in high school,” he recalls, “I heard The Weavers at Carnegie Hall singing songs like If I Had a Hammer, Follow The Drinking Gourd, and Wasn’t That a Time. I was stunned by the extraordinary effect that music of conscience can have on people, particularly when they sing songs of conscience together.” That lesson launched Peter on a lifelong journey that is now, perhaps, in its most vital phase.

Joining Peter will be Libby Glover and David Tamulevich performing as a duo Michigan’s own, Mustard’s Retreat. Their performances are always joyful and uplifting, as well as intelligent, thought provoking and insightful. They’ve recently begun referring to their career and touring as “Defiantly Hopeful.” In part due to their long career, but more as a statement about what the music has meant to them. “Folk music is, at its heart, defiantly hopeful!” Tamulevich says. “We came of age in the 60s, at the confluence of Pete Seeger, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, and the singer/songwriter revolution. We care much more about what we do and stand for and finding that common ground with our audiences, than fame or money: this is our community of choice, and we consider ourselves so fortunate to be here.”

Dixon's ViolinDixon’s Violin

You've never heard violin like this!

The world's premier visionary violinist, Dixon's life mission is to inspire people, and he has done so at over 1,000 concerts across North America, including giving five TED talks/performances, over ten years at Burning Man and Electric Forest, plus radio, TV, and film appearances. A former technology leader and symphony violinist, Dixon walked away from a distinguished career to follow his dream full-time, and invented a whole new music genre. Dixon now improvises on a 5-string electric violin with a looping system he developed to create an all-live one-man symphony, guided by his remarkable personal story of life transformation.

  • The violinist that is changing the world, Preserve the Future
  • Standing ovation … It's no surprise that Dixon was voted the best of the evening, Examiner
  • Not your ordinary violinist, Fox 2 News
  • It's quite an accomplishment for a man who possibly invented a new genre on his violin, City Pulse
  • One in particular, Dixon's Violin, blew minds with a folksy, heartfelt set, performed entirely by one man and one electric violin, Examiner

First FridaysEyde Evans Hyde and Mike Hyde

Eyde Evans Hyde began her early vocal development in front of her bedroom mirror singing to Diana Ross records. Her love of music carried on through both high school choir and band, and ultimately into her college years when she majored in music. All while she was working on her Bachelor of Music Education degree, Edye was singing in commercial bands at night, often with her to-be husband Mike Hyde. During the years following, which included full-time employment as a K-12 music teacher and a college administrator, Edye was constantly gigging. Some highlights include: singing backup for actress Connie Stevens in Atlantic City; a four month club gig in Shanghai, China; performing as the opening act for Ray Charles in Grand Rapids; and headlining a jazz tour in Torino, Italy. She also became involved in theater, singing and acting in multiple West Michigan productions, a few of her favorites being Ain’t Misbehavin’, Dream Girls, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, and Ragtime. Motivated by this love of theater, Edye went on to form her own non-profit theater company Ebony Road Players which is still in operation today.

Edye & Mike EvansMike Hyde decided his fate after watching The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 at age 8. Consistent guitar lessons starting on day one and a plethora of gigs in his early teen years led to high school jazz band, a college degree in music education, and finally studies at The Guitar Institute of Technology where he was able to hone his craft. For many years, Mike used these acquired skills to play West Michigan commercial and jazz gigs, as well as working as a sideman with local symphonies and visiting Broadway troupes. Recently retired from private and college teaching, Mike now enjoys his focus on the challenge and satisfaction of performing in the duo setting of Edye & Mike.

First FridaysFull Cord Bluegrass

When it comes to movers and shakers in the bluegrass world, Full Cord is a super-group on the rise. After winning the prestigious 2022 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition in Colorado, the Michigan-based group followed that with another much-coveted honor when the International Bluegrass Music Association named Full Cord its “Momentum Award Band of the Year.”

Full ChordWhile mandolinist Brian Oberlin notes the band’s music “is new and fresh to the ears of seasoned bluegrass fans,” the bluegrass traditions in Full Cord have deep roots. The group’s members—Oberlin, guitarist Eric Langejans, bassist Todd Kirchner—boast decades of musical artistry, with experience in popular performing bands from Michigan to Oregon. The group brings along top players to fill in fiddle and banjo to round out that rich bluegrass tone.

The band’s debut album on Nashville’s Dark Shadow Recording released in November of 2023 and has maintained charting positions through the spring of 2024. Full Cord’s songwriting has reached a new “tipping point,”  manager Katie Kirchner suggests, enhanced by the group’s vast repertoire and robust experience in numerous band projects over the years.

And Oberlin insists the band is “just hitting its stride”—ready to follow in the footsteps of fellow Michigan bluegrass icons Billy Strings and Greensky Bluegrass as yet another star in the making.
